We're thrilled to share a glimpse into an exciting project that's been blossoming in the hills outside of Bend, Oregon: The Sloan House. This isn't just a vacation home; it's a testament to thoughtful design, sustainable living, and the profound connection between architecture and nature. And we've just wrapped up the Schematic Design phase, marking a significant milestone in its journey!
The Sloan House is a luxurious, two-bedroom, two-bathroom retreat designed to be a true respite from the daily grind. Situated amidst the stunning forest landscape, it explores the timeless elegance of the traditional gable roof house typology, reimagined for modern living. The core concept behind this home was to strip away unnecessary complexities, allowing the owners to fully immerse themselves in the solitude and beauty of their property.
One of the most captivating aspects of The Sloan House's design is its direct relationship with nature. While providing all the creature comforts for proper rest and relaxation, the home effortlessly opens itself to the surrounding environment. To truly maximize the site's unique orientation and adaptability to the breathtaking landscape, we conceptualized three distinct gables, each pointed toward a different, carefully framed view shed. This design ensures that every moment spent within the home offers a fresh perspective of the natural world outside.
The very essence of the home's layout, or "plan parti," was envisioned as three overlapping bars converging at the entryway. This isn't just an aesthetic choice; it's a deeply personal one, signifying the owners' three children, creating a subtle yet powerful connection to family within the very fabric of the home.
As with any project of this caliber, we've navigated some unique challenges. The rugged topography of the site demanded innovative solutions to seamlessly integrate the home into the natural contours of the land.
Furthermore, designing a high-touch, luxury residence in a high fire risk area required meticulous attention to material selection and construction methods. We're committed to utilizing bio-based and fire-resilient materials throughout the Sloan House, ensuring both sustainability and peace of mind for the owners.
The Sloan House has been a labor of love, slowly developing with incredible care and precision. Now, with Schematic Design complete, we're one step closer to bringing this extraordinary vision to life. We can't wait to share more updates as this sanctuary of sustainable luxury continues to take shape in the heart of the Oregon wilderness. Stay tuned!
